Mercedes R129 Workshop Manual

Posted on  by admin

I'm looking for a 1995 shop manual that applies to my SL600. I'd like to do some work myself for a change. I can find a plethora of links to the software version, but I run Vista and none of this software works (even when I do the compatibility tricks). So I'd like to find a real printed manual.

I've looked on numerous web sites and Google queries but I can't even find a reprint - everyone seems to be pushing the software. Mods: Links and redirects don't offend me. Don't hold your breath, they do not exist. I been looking for years. But if you find something please let me know.

I always think there is a difference between a 'Service Manual' and a 'Workshop Manual'. Workshop manuals that I know are like the Haynes manuals that would actually explain and show photos of,for example, how to get the crankshaft out and fit big and main bearing shells. I have three different sets of CD's for Mercedes which I have either bought on eBay or downloaded, which are Mitchell on demand, Alldata and WIS and to be honest most of it is pretty useless. Give me a well thumbed slightly greasy Haynes book any day. Give me a well thumbed slightly greasy Haynes book any day Sadly, there is no R129 Haynes manual available. I received email last night from the folks at MercedesManuals.com that said that the newest version on DVD-ROM are actually Vista compatible. I just ordered the ' 1990 - 2002 Mercedes-Benz 129 Chassis Family Factory Service Manual on DVD-ROM'and will post my (hopefully) success or (gasp) failure here.

I have 64-bit Vista, so that will doubly complicate things. But I think when I put a computer in the garage it'll run 32-bit to keep things simple.

I'll do the greasing. In order to learn. Try old books, things don't change that much on the insides. One of he best schools is to visit scrap yards, that you pick your parts we have them plenty around Los Angeles.

You want to know what is behind the dash, would you like an engine, or transmission to take home for cheap, you need a caliper no problem everything is out there. Do surgery take it a part learn, throw in garbage later.

Oh, it comes with the light bulbs too, try to buy see the price. I also picked up some relays, while I was there. I left the best for last I found two hardly used hydraulic struts Mercedes wanted $750 two years a go for one, I paid $32 That alone made my day. What was the subject here? I don't know how you guys put up with me. But you can't say you are bored with all my plabing.

Those Mercedes bustards, doesn't want us to know. But hey, we got the forum and there is nothing they can do about that.
