I don't know if this bike is old enough for this forum but I figure you guys are pretty good at finding sources for hard to find parts. I have a pseudo rare '93 Ducati 900 Superlight ( #758)and need a few odds and ends for it. Specifically a fuel filler gasket, specialized bolts, and those stupid rubberized fasteners that Ducati is so fond of using on bodywork.

Most of the online Ducati parts places don't list anything older than 2000. Do any of you know of a source for parts for these older bikes. This thing is almost perfect and I just need to put a few finishing touches on it.

Thanks for your help. Get a parts manual for it so you have part numbers, then try some of the online Ducati shops, you might be surprised at what's available. Here's the one I used to use for my Supersport parts: The dates they list are for the parts books they have online, not the parts that are available. The stupid rubber things are Wellnuts, and they're available at some hardware stores, or from online Ducati dealerships, or maybe McMaster Carr? Obviously you want metric ones, which are a little harder to find locally but not impossible. PS - I love those Superlights.

I've bought a lot of 900SS bits and pieces over the past few years. The best places I've found are: (Chris here is a great source of SS knowledge, especially when it comes to the FCR flat-slide carb kit they sell, which is a must-have uprgrade IMO. Do the 41mm carbs and hot coil kit and it's a different bike).

(lots of good SS stuff and home of the 'Desmodue Maintenance and Service manual', a must-own for any air-cooled Ducati owner). (rubber wellnuts and stainless bolt kits. IIRC the wellnuts are 5mm and 6mm. Buy lots of these, they're easy to lose and they age poorly. I usually replace any that don't look new when I'm fiddling with the bikes). Is that a bike that came from the Clearlake, TX area? There was a SL for sale down here a couple of years ago that I was interested in, and the pic you posted looks familiar.

One important thing about the SL that you need to check is the wheels. The Marvic/Akront 2-pc. Wheels are a work of art, but kind of maintenance intensive. The centers are magnesium and subject to corrosion, and you need to check the torque on the wheel bolts (holding the center to the rim) regularly. Proper torque is 18 ft/lb.

With time the holes in the aluminum rim can elongate if they're not checked reguarly, and eventually make them ususable. I restored a set and it was extremely expensive, and they were mechanically fine and just needed cosmetics. If you plan on using the SL a lot, I would take these wheels off the bike and buy something like a set of forged OZ's to ride with. Nice bike BTW!
